All comers, welcome to my humble abode.
May I interest you in a strange game of mine? Over 5 years in the making, although a fair amount of the material date back even further. It’s called The Meidlands.
In one sense, it is a classic “traditional” class-based, fantasy TTRPG, but in another, it’s quite an altogether strange game. It has much that feels familiar, but plays very, very different.
It has a strange, historically grounded, fantasy version of the 17th century: pike and shot, but also magic. But this world finds itself in the midst of a crisis… the old gods, long locked out, are slowly returning. And where no god is entirely safe, what is less safe or those who call on their blessings without knowing how to properly handle it. This causes, let’s say, serious issues with localized reality and living creatures in that zone.
The dice mechanics are unique. Simple to learn, but highly tactical. Once you throw the dice, you are only halfway done, as bonuses and penalties can be employed to manipulate the two distinct types of resolution dice.
It is richly detailed, with unique classes like witch, mountebank, battlemage, and cultist. It has four distinct types of magic with unique mechanics and aesthetics, rich crafting systems, strange creatures, and intriguing locales. It has combat that is designed to be highly tactical, but easy to adjudicate, suitable for miniature junkies and “theatre-of-the-mind” kids alike.
The best part: after 5 years, it’s nearly complete. The rules are 100% complete and 90% of the lore text is written. Perhaps 20-25% (just over 100 pages) is fully laid out. Additionally, I have hundreds of pages of material that can become future adventures, supplements, and lore posts to this site. This game and this world has been living for quite a while, and now just needs more people to come in.
I will be running a playtest soon (in time for Halloween) and hope to release the final version mid-2027. In the meantime, I will use this site to drop articles and lore, create an SRD and free resources for the game, and generally communicate with all that are interested in my little, horrible tale.
Thanks and enjoy.
